Chances of high-profile defense attorneys like Ben Brafman or Ted Wells going against a female district attorney are slim to zero. Of the major metropolitan cities across the United States, including New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Boston and San Francisco, only two women were ever elected to serve as District Attorney.

Let’s return to a variation of my hypothetical from the first post. Pretend that you purchased Charles Ponzi’s stock and the existence of his fraud has just been revealed. But let’s also say that in the same disclosure revealing the fraud, Ponzi also revealed legitimate business plans of company expansion. The market recognized the fraud, but also appreciated legitimate business opportunities, and the stock price didn’t move.

Tarek Mehanna: A Hero For Villains

It is strange that Tarek Mehanna connected with Batman, the comic-book superhero, when the role of villain is more befitting. Mehanna, a Bostonian who traveled to Yemen in search of training with a terrorist group in 2004 and later used the Internet to spread al-Qaeda’s message, was sentenced to 17 ½ years in prison on Thursday.
