Althouse is a blog written by Ann Althouse, a law professor at the University of Wisconsin who teaches federal jurisdiction, civil procedure and constitutional law. She received the Wisconsin Law Alumni Association’s Teacher of the Year award in 2002.
After Instapundit, a conservative blog founded by University of Tennessee law professor Glenn Reynolds, linked to it, popularity exploded. Althouse’s blog has since developed a large and loyal following, receiving over 500,000 views a month. A lifelong Democrat, Althouse’s views are often seen as conservative, and she has attracted a right-leaning readership.
Since 2004, Althouse has posted commentary on politics, the law and current events. In addition to her regular postings and commentary, in which she often skews Democrats (a favorite target is Al Gore), she also muses about her favorite television programs, restaurants and posts videos of gaffes by television pundits.
Althouse gained national attention for her commentary on a feminist blogger who Althouse accused of dressing to draw attention to her breasts during a photo-op with former president Bill Clinton .
In 2009 her announcement that she was engaged to a commenter she met through her blog drew coverage from the New York Times.
